The Innovation Leadership Map

Why do smart, well-resourced innovation leaders fail?

This question is at the heart of Brett’s research to better decode the conscious and unconscious drivers of successful innovation leadership.

In 2019 he began researching and mapping the emotional and behavioural drivers of innovation at INSEAD, the leading global business school based in Fontainebleau, France.

The research findings were published in 2021 and recognized for their breakthrough contribution to the fields of leadership, innovation and systems psychodynamics (ResearchGate).

The Innovation Leadership Map (ILM)

The research informed The Innovation Leadership Map—a psychometric leadership development methodology. ILM evaluates drivers strongly correlated with positive and negative innovation outcomes.

ILM is used to evaluate lived leadership experiences through psychodynamic frameworks to better work with unconscious imprints influencing professional and personal outcomes.

The insight and inspiration behind ILM came from Brett’s experiences with performance psychology as an elite athlete and coach.

The framework is an ingredient in Brett’s leadership development programs. It has proven to increase effectiveness, resilience and career progress.

The Six Drivers of Innovation Leadership

An outcome of the research was reframing the task of innovation leadership from purely technical to equally technical and social. Navigating the Boundary of Innovation Tolerance has proven a powerful way for leaders to evaluate the social dynamics of better innovation outcomes at less professional or personal cost.
